Registration Certificate in RK: RK-MT-7 No. 014761
Registration Date: September 11, 2015
System Overview
The BD BACTEC FX40 is an automated system designed for the rapid detection of bacteria and fungi in clinical specimens.+1
Key Features:
- Modular Design: Offers installation flexibility to meet specific laboratory requirements.
- User Interface: Features a color touch-screen graphic display for ease of use.
- Real-time Monitoring: Internal sensors immediately detect the placement or removal of vials.+1
- Versatility: Supports simultaneous processing of bacterial, fungal, and mycobacterial cultures using various media types.
- Connectivity: Can be integrated with a compatible Laboratory Information System (LIS) or the BD EpiCenter data management system.
Method Principles
- Metabolism: Microorganisms in the culture vials consume nutrients and release carbon dioxide ($CO_2$) into the medium.
- Reaction: A dye in the sensor at the bottom of the vial reacts with the $CO_2$.
- Detection: This reaction modulates the light absorbed by the detector’s fluorescent material.
- Measurement: A photodetector at each station measures fluorescence levels every ten minutes.
- Alerts: When a “positive” result is identified based on pre-programmed parameters, the system triggers an indicator light, an audible alarm, and displays the culture on the tablet.
- Confirmation: Laboratory technologists then remove positive vials for subculturing and identification.
